My measure of what's wrong with the world? There are over 86 million Google hits for Britney Spears, but only about 35,500 for Myron Floren (and the second one is his obituary).

Exactly.

The weird thing about Lawrence Welk is that, as much sick fun as it is to see the terrifying costumes and unapologetic schmaltz, the actual quality of the musicianship is generally very good--which is more than you can say for Ms. Spears.

I mean, Welk's orchestra was often composed of highly (even classically) trained professionals who just happened to fall into that gig, a gig that was both steady and paid well.
